Planning a quick visit to Manila? Here are a few short stops you might want to drop by while you’re in town.
Located in the popular historical district of Intramuros, Casa Manila is one of the most stunning sights that merits a special spot on one’s itinerary. The museum showcases the grandiose interiors that were typical of the colonial-style houses favoured in the 1800s. The museum was based on a copy of an 1850 San Nicolas house and was completed in the 1980s, featuring the elaborate furnishings and various rooms of charming classic colonial-style.
NATIONAL MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY
One of the newest museums opened in Manila, the National Museum of Natural History is located near Rizal Park, a tribute to the country’s most famous national hero José Rizal. The new museum is stunning, featuring an exquisite glass dome supported by a double helix column inspired by the structure of DNA. The clean, bright and modern space is occupied by various exhibits featuring the rich and diverse native wildlife flora and fauna found across the island nation. Definitely worth a visit.
LUGAWAN SA TEJEROS
For adventurous travellers interested in sitting elbow-to-elbow (literally) with the locals to enjoy local food, check out lugaw sa tejeros, a 24-hour lugaw (congee) joint located in the Tejeros district of Manila. Enjoy a piping hot bowl of lugaw with lechon kawali (crispy pork belly), a sprinkle of fried garlic and an egg. The perfect comfort food.
MANAM COMFORT FILIPINO
Travellers looking to enjoy Filipino food at a more upscale setting will be well-served in dropping by Manam Comfort Filipino restaurant. With four convenient outlets to choose from scattered all around Manila, there is really no reason not to drop by for a wonderful meal. Our recommendations are the crispy sisig and the overloaded garlicky chicken and pork belly adobo. Grab a tall icy glass of ube sago (frozen yam milkshake) while you’re at it, you know you want to.
Possibly one of the best, if not the best cup of third-wave coffee we had in Manila was at Yardstick Coffee, an unassuming café located near Manila city centre. Pick from two distinctively delicious espresso blends (or have both!), grab a seat in the spacious industrial chic set up and enjoy the bustling Manila city streets view with a perfect cup.
